試述 ISBD 的目的
主要目的是為全世界兼容的描述性編目制定條款，以促進國家級機構之間和所有國際圖書情報界的書目紀錄國際交換。
1. 不同來源書目目錄可互交換及被接受
make records from different sources interchangeable, so that records produced in one country can be easily accepted in library catalogues or other bibliographic lists in any other country;
2. 跨越語言的障礙
assist in the interpretation of records across language barriers, so that records produced for users of one language can be interpreted by users of other languages;
3. 書目記錄轉換成電子的形式
assist in the conversion of bibliographic records to electronic form;
4. 促進書目數據在語義網環境下的可移植性及其他內容標準互操作性
(操作版本可從資料上的版本說明辨識)
enhance interoperability with other content standards.
試述 ISBD 使用的標點符號及其空格
1. 除了第一項的第一個細目外,，每個細目之前需有規定的標點符號,，或整個細目必須置於規定的標點符號之內。規定的標點符號前後均需空一格，逗點(,)及圓點(.)祗需於後方 空一格；國家書目機構或其他編目機構指定的其他標點符號亦需要比照辦理,，即使形成重複的標點符號,，也應照辦。
2. 圓括弧(())及方括弧([])視為一組標點符號，在前圓括弧及前方括弧之前空一格，在後圓括弧及後方括弧之後空一格。若圓括弧及方括弧之前後有其他的規定標點符號，已經 空一格, 則不需重複空格。
3. 除了第一項之外, 各項之前均需使用圓點、空格、連接號、空格(. － )；倘若以段落、字體或縮格清楚區分, 則可以一個圓點(.)置於前項最後, 用以取代原來之圓點、空格、連 接號、空格(. － )。
4. 各項的第一個細目被省略時，則實際上的第一個細目之前的標點符號,，則由該項之前的圓點、空格、連接號、空格(. － )取代。
5. 重複使用的項，應重複使用其之前的標點符號,，圓點、空格、連接號、空格(. － )；祗有在0.4.3的情況下, 或第六項的多個集叢敘述時, 可以不必重複使用該等標點符號。
6. 細目重複著錄時，應同時著錄該細目之前的標點符號。
7. 細目以圓點做結尾時，下個細目之前的標點符號以圓點開始時，祗需使用一個圓點。

8. 有三個標點可以用在全部或大多數的項:
A. 方括弧([])用於第一項及第四項，將特定細目置於其中；得自指定著錄來源以外的資料, 置於方括弧內。
同項內連續的細目都取材自指定著錄來源以外的資料，若不包括資料類型標示，則可置於一組方括弧內；資料類型標示永遠單獨使用一組方括弧；分屬不同項，即使為連續的細目，亦應置於不同的方括弧內。
B. 資料被省略時, 以三個圓點(...)表示部份資料被省略。
C. 第六項的每個集叢敘述置於一組圓括弧內;；
第四項的若干細目置於置於一組圓括弧內；
第五項及第八項的特定細目應置於一組圓括弧內。
加號(+)前後都應空格, 用於第五項。
9. 同項或同細目裡，相同的資訊以多種語文出現時，依照下列規定辦理：
一個細目以多種語文著錄時，第二個語文以後的資訊之前，使用空格、等號、空格( = )。
一個項裡有多個細目以多種語文著錄時，同語文的細目集中著錄，第一個語文的細目之前使用規定的標點符號，第二個語文以後的資訊之前，使用空格、等號、空格( = )。
10 不需要著錄的項或細目，同時省略其前面的規定標點符號，或需置於其中的標點符號。
11. 採用由右向左書寫語文時，應互換原來規定的逗點及分號使用方法； 圓點、空格、連接號、空格亦應由左向右轉置，開始及結束圓括弧與方括弧之意義，亦應轉置。反斜線 及阿拉伯數字照舊，不必轉置。
